More Than 200 Foreigners Deported from Cambodia in Past Week

PHNOM PENH: A Spokesperson of the General Department of Immigration has said that authorities arrested and deported 263 foreigners from four different countries who had crossed the border into Cambodia illegally for work without passports. These foreigners will be barred from entering Cambodia for three years.

According to a press release issued by the General Department of Immigration on Saturday, 22 October, 263 foreigners were arrested in connection to illegal immigration between 20-22 October 2022. These foreigners were without passports and were engaged in illegal employment, in violation of immigration law, hence were ordered to be deported by the Ministry of Interior and prohibited from reentry into Cambodia for three years.

The 263 foreigners came from four different countries: two from Bangladesh, 16 from Thailand, 74 from China (including nine from Taiwan), and 171 from Vietnam. All were deported by authorities at Phnom Penh International Airport and Poipet and Tropaeng Phlong International Border Crossing Police Stations.
